McCord Communications understands that the most critical aspect of an outdoor emergency notification system is the ability of the listeners to hear the audible warning tones. Our system design specialists take several variables into consideration when designing an outdoor warning system. These variables include;

Ambient noise is a major variable in designing any outdoor warning system. FEMA standards require that in order for an outdoor warning system to be effective the siren tone must be a minimum of 10 dB above ambient noise. Ambient noise within most settings will typically be around 60 dB. In some settings for example, (College Campuses, Urban Areas or proximities to airfield flight lines), an 80 dB design is suggested in order to combat the higher levels of ambient noise. Voice capable systems add to the complexity of design and consideration but are typically designed around an 80 dB requirement as well.
