Whelen Engineering is a proven leader in the Mass Notification industry and the manufacture of tornado sirens. That starts with product design and their commitment to making their great products even better. Whelen’s warning siren engineers have designed the latest product feature with the ease of maintenance in mind. The Whelen outdoor warning siren cabinet houses all necessary electronic components that make the unit operational as well as the batteries to power the system. Removing or reinstalling the batteries can sometimes be challenging due to the height at which the cabinets are typically installed and the weight of the battery. Additionally, the batteries are lead acid and have to be handled with care to ensure that the batteries do not injure the technician or damage the electronics during this process. The new pull out battery tray allows for much easier access to the batteries and decreases the danger of battery removal or reinstallation. The batteries simply slide out of the cabinet on a tray which allows for easy access, disconnect and removal. Once again, Whelen's outdoor warning siren engineers have proven that product improvement and innovation is extremely important and they've found a way to make a great product even better.

Nuclear Warning Systems

Since 1980, all utilities that own a commercial nuclear power plant in the United States have been required to have both an onsite and offsite emergency response plan as a condition of obtaining and maintaining a license to operate that plant. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) approves onsite emergency response plans. Offsite plans are evaluated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and provided to the NRC, who must consider the FEMA findings when issuing or maintaining a license.
