WSI’s new industrial weather radio (AdaptAlert™ DSP-300-NW) is designed to receive the NWR network broadcast on any one of the seven NOAA broadcast frequencies (channels).  The AdaptAlert DSP NWR comes with rear panel jacks to enable connection to external audio equipment such as a recorder or public-address amplifier.  The standard antenna can be replaced with a connector to an external (indoor or outdoor) antenna, if needed within heavily fortified buildings.  The DSP-300 can be placed on a desktop, shelf, or mounted in a standard 19” wide equipment rack, using an optional adapter faceplate.  More importantly, the rear panel jack also enables connection of the relay closures to a Whelen siren console (e.g. E-2010) for activation of all sirens based on specific programmed events, such as a Tornado Warning (TOR).  Using the AdaptAlert DSP-300 will now enable automatic activation of sirens immediately upon the issuance of a selected event broadcast by the NWS.  Several colleges in Georgia are already implementing this new capability

For metropolitan or county Emergency Management Agencies (EMA) that have numerous sirens installed across their counties, they may want to take advantage of the selective activation of only those sirens that fall within the boundaries of a NWS designated storm area.  The NWS provides Watches, Warnings and Advisories using Common Alerting Protocol (CAP) based format, which enables a low cost entry for emergency mangers, customers and the public to have access to detailed watch/warning/advisory information.  WSI offers an innovative software capability to monitor NWS CAP feeds for your county and make those warnings available for various modes of alerts and notifications.  The WSI AdaptAlert Siren Activation system can be used by authorized emergency managers over a secure web-based link to activate selected sirens.  It can also use the NWS CAP feed or other applications using a CAP message to activate sirens.

For example, the WSI Map Client software, installed with an AdaptAlert Siren Activation system, can visually display NWS storm-based alerts with polygon layouts of the affected areas of warnings.  When a NWS CAP message with a storm-based polygon is received, which overlaps any sirens within your county, the Map Client displays the polygon overlaid on the map with siren locations.  The visual icons of sirens on the map change color to indicate their selection and activation status.  In addition to the NWS polygon area selection of devices, the Map Client enables the user to select sirens individually, dynamically by a group, or on an all-call basis.  The user can set up the WSI software to automatically activate only those sirens falling under any part of the NWS storm polygon, or set it for manual review mode.
